Blessings Well after to going to a few of the shows celebrating 50 years of Jamaica Independence, I thought it only fitting to write something.
On Monday 30th of July 2012, I was truly blessed to be in the presence of one of my long time poetry idols the one and only Mutabaruka........hail him. I was tempted, inspired, tantilised and really made aware of what I had been missing as shivers went up and down my spine and a ray of heat bathed my very soul. I was so glad I had decided to go on my own although part of me wasn't looking forward to it. Somewhere like the O2 is huge and the prospect of drinking alone in the VIP lounge and talking to myself was almost daunting...lol. But nonetheless in true spirited style I am used to I got on with it and it was one of the best concerts, spoken word and song events I had been to in too many years to count! The fact that I was also treated to a dose of Benjamin Zephaniah, a new female singing sensation and spoken word artist called Jah Nine all rounded of by the Legendary Abbysinians......wow! I took as many photos as I could so to have my souvenirs and bought an album of Mutabaruka's. No blog would do it justice but lets say I was rocking in my chair for three and a half hours, singing, reciting poems I knew, interracting with other lovers of wordsmiths and taken into a zone and place I have not been for more than twenty years. | AuthorI am a Graduate, Mother, Poet, Writer, Artist, Holistic Therapist, Jewellery designer/ maker and long standing Community Worker.
